Early Fall Gardening Tip

The first day of fall arrived last week and its time to think about your perennials and summer flowering shrubs.  Think about cutting back the withered branches and “dead heading” the spent flowers on your perennials and shrubs.  It will help tidy up your plants and improve the overall look of your garden.  Most importantly it will help the plants to restore energy into the roots for next years growing season.

Another tip to keep in mind for next year – if you remember to dead head your shrubs and perennial flowers as they fade throughout the season, they will not only look neater and fresher longer but also may produce a second flush of flowers for you!

Until next time – Jim
